Say What?
This afternoon hubby and I finally got our asses in gear to go and get a County picture ID card. We don't have pictures on our drivers licenses since they both don't expire until 2007 (then it will be mandatory), so we figured we'd get a county ID instead.
Well, looking for the Court House, we ended up at Motor Vehicles anyway. I explained to a woman there what we wanted and found out that..........
I just might not be an American citizen!!!!!!! (hey now!) Since I have a German birth certificate........I HAVE to go to INS for my Naturalization Papers! Ain't that some shit??
Mom always figured that since my Dad was an American citizen, that I would automatically be one even though I was born in Germany.
All of this has disturbed me a bit.......what if they decide to deport my ass?? Christ.....can that happen? (biting finger nails!)
If anyone has any knowledge about the requirements of citizenship in the good ole USA.......LET ME KNOW!
(whimper)

I was always under the impression that if your Dad was an American citizen then you automatically get US citizenship. This was a big reason that a lot of women overseas would marry or have children with US soldiers. Then their children automically had a chance to be US citizens.
I may be just a formality that you need to clear things up. I wouldn't worry too much, if there was a real problem, my guess is it would have come up LONG ago!
Yes you are an American Citizen. Even though you were born overseas if one parent is an AC then you are too.
I agree with Wendi - if it was a real problem you would've found out about it a long time ago.
Wow... aren't you guys the international family!?! :-)
"Ain't that some shit??"
I gotta tell ya - that's the funniest line I've read in weeks! I come back to your blog just to read it! LOL... I seriously crack up and if I swore I would totally say that ALL THE TIME!!!
You are AWESOME Miss Chris!! LOL LOL LOL.. Love ya!!
Have you been deported or something? Hellooooooooooo??!!
OMG! This is deja vu. My husband was also born in Germany (Furth) to a German mother and an American GI father. He always thought that he was a U.S. citizen because of his father. He is legally, but what a nightmare it was trying to prove it, because his birth certificate, and all other paper work, is in German and his father never got all the proper documents when they left Germany. It took my husband 9 months to get a passport due to have to have everything translated into English. I hope you will have an easier time getting what you need for your ID.
