I got some junk mail today advertising DVD's........Billy Wilder Collection. That made me think of something my Mom told me when I was visiting. When she was 16 (1953) she worked in a clock shop in Germany. A German gentleman came in and before he left he introduced himself......he was a close friend of Billy Wilder. He was interested in taking some pictures of Mom to send to Mr. Wilder......he thought that she had a beautiful face. (she did!) There was one stipulation, she couldn't be involved with an American. (I thought that was a weird statement) Anyway......Mom WAS involved with an American soldier........my Dad. Anyway, the man came over to meet Mom's father and discuss the details with him. He called a few days later to see if Mom wanted to do this......she told her father to tell him no (she was in love with my Dad already). To make a long story short.......my Mom might have been famous if she had said yes!
