the new pope
I was lurking around reading some blogs and I saw a couple comments referring to the new pope as a Nazi because he was a member of the Hitler Youth Group (Hitlerjugend). To those who do not know......at a certain age you were forced to join. My Aunt Teddi was forced into the BDM,
Bund Deutscher Madel, (German Girl's league) at the age of 14. She didn't want to join, and my Grandparents didn't want her to join, but, she had to.....it was required. Consequently, she was dismissed from the group and given a certificate stated as being, "not worthy". (I wonder if she still has it?) She hated to go, so her father (my grandfather) would write excuse notes for her not to attend.
Not all German's were Nazi supporters. My family suffered under Hitler's reign. My Grandfather's dental practice suffered because most of his patients were Jews. He wasn't allowed Jewish patients anymore. He was pressured into joining the Nazi Party, but never did.......fortunately, the war ended before that pressure turned into something worse. My family's house was bombed and they lost everything. My Mom still hates the sound of sirens. My Grandfather hated Hitler and wrote unflattering poems about him and his regime (Papa was also a writer and a poet).
So.....just because a person is German, or was in a controversial group during WWII, doesn't mean that that person is a Nazi. Give the pope a friggin' break.

That wa what hubby & I were saying when that bit of nastyiness started circulating - kids had no choice, did what they had to in order to survive.
Some people will only pick up on part of the story and run with it. Anyone with any knowledge or compassion will understand the reality behind the situation.
Have a happy Sunday!
