Christmas with the Vets
On Tuesday evening we attended a Christmas party for the vets on the Liberty Wing of the Memorial Home. Unfortunately, we were the ONLY family members of a vet that showed up. That really galls me. You mean to tell me that no other family member could take a couple of hours out of their *busy* schedule to come to the party? Give me a break. It just goes to show how much people care nowadays.
Anyway........the party was really nice and touching. All the guys got a shopping bag full of gifts donated by different organizations. Even Santa took some time out of HIS busy schedule to visit the guys! :-)
Earlier in the day we visited the doggies and kitties at our local SPCA. We brought 2 large bags of dry food and a bag of milk bones that we gave out personally. OMG......the puppies that were there! So damn sweet! All the dogs were so happy to have visitors.......and I got plenty of kisses and love. It's always a bittersweet experience to spend time with unwanted pets. If I could take them all home.......I certainly would. My heart breaks everytime I leave.
You know......doing things that I described above is really what Christmas is all about. I've seen the craziness in the stores......people buying anything and everything.........frustration, rudeness, stress.........and going into debt over just......stuff and more stuff. It's ridiculous and sad. Anymore, Christmas is a retail holiday, not a spiritual holiday. Thankfully, we don't get caught up in this fiasco anymore (we used too, and I hated Christmas for it).......now we do things that warm our spirit and we don't go into debt doing it.
Tomorrow Mom is coming down for a few days. We will be visiting the in-laws on Saturday and cooking a turkey dinner on Sunday. After dinner we will all be heading over to the home to bring Joe a nice plate of food and spend some time with him and the other vets. I'm looking forward to it! :-)
